The demise of Google Wave
Mark just didn’t get it
He said “It will never work!”
Why did Mark have problems with Google Wave
- It was doing too many things
- On-line collaboration services are a great idea
- Google Wave was far too complicated
- Part social network, updates – too confusing
It was also:
- a difficult and complicated story to tell
- way before its time, too much in the product
If it had grown organically like Twitter take-up may have been better
Google should have taken Apples approach to marketing, like they did with the iPad
- No specifications
- Just the slogan “You already know how to use it”
The technology won’t be wasted, they’ll use it elsewhere
